Welfare That Works for Everyone
A dedicated Welfare House for children with long-term support needs will be
established in Reykjanesbær, and equal access to education for young people
receiving financial assistance will be secured through laptop grants.
Frontline welfare services will be strengthened, with more pathways into work and activity created for those on financial support, and ground lease charges reduced.
Student housing will be built, and more homes provided for disabled residents, pensioners, and senior citizens in partnership with non-profit housing associations.
Jobs, Growth and Opportunity
We will welcome the Icelandic Coast Guard to Njarðvík Harbour, attract more cruise ships to Keflavík Harbour, and develop Helguvík Harbour as a green industrial hub.
More commercial plots will be released, and the town strengthened as a tourism and service centre, leveraging its proximity to the airport and natural resources.
More jobs will be created through an active economic strategy, and opportunities will be secured for people with reduced work capacity via a 1% municipal job allocation.
A Greener, Better Reykjanesbær
Traffic flow and safety on Njarðarbraut will be improved with new roundabouts, alongside improved neighbourhood connections and prioritised child road safety.
Development of Ásbrú will continue, plots will be released in Keflavíkurborgir and Akademíureitur, and walking and cycling paths completed across the municipality.
Forestry will be expanded through community effort, new trails created to Vogar and Seltjörn, and attractions at Seltjörn and Fitjar further developed.
Culture Builds Community
We will extend opening hours at swimming pools, strengthen town festivals, andexpand exhibitions celebrating the heritage of Suðurnes to reinforce shared identity.
A town square will be developed around the Duus Museum area, with surrounding heritage buildings developed with investors as cultural and event destinations.
Opportunities for young people in music and the arts will be expanded, while social and recreational opportunities for older residents will be broadened.
The Very Best for Our Children
We will continue guaranteeing preschool access from 18 months of age, strengthen childminding services, and offer home-care payments to give parents greater choice.
A new Garðasel preschool will be built, Stapaleikskóli completed, existing preschools expanded, and new schools constructed in Ásbrú and in Hlíðarhverfi. Playgrounds will be expanded across neighbourhoods.
Leisure grants for children will be increased to at least ISK 70,000, youth centres expanded, and the 88 House youth centre strengthened.
Sports facilities will be significantly improved, including development at Afreksbraut.
